Fabric Collage Print - Ruby Throated Hummingbird

This print captures an intimate moment: a Ruby-throated Hummingbird feeding her chicks in a nest no bigger than a tea cup. Adapted from my original fabric collage, the piece features hand-dyed fabrics that shape the delicate forms of the birds and their nest. Fine mohair thread was used for the downy lining—a subtle, almost invisible detail that speaks to the fragility and tenderness of this scene.

Part of my Nesting Season series, created as an Upstream Fellow in 2024, this work honors the quiet strength and care found in everyday acts of motherhood. Though the moment is fleeting in nature, this giclée print offers a way to hold onto it—a lasting reminder of the beauty in small, nurturing gestures.
