Hi! My name is Natalija. I am a fiber artist working under the name Dock 5.
During my previous career as a corporate fashion designer, I watched the business model change from local production of speciality items, to global production of cheap, fast fashion. My soul was longing to work in a way that would have less environmental impact while using art to create community dialog, so I took a leap of faith to become an artist.
I believe that quality craftsmanship equals sustainability. So I decided to make canvas bags that are built to last. I start by creating patterns to design the bag shapes and functional details. Then I create illustrations that are translated into screen prints onto the canvas. My art is inspired by the natural beauty of Park Point and Lake Superior, and the interconnected ecosystems. Everything is made in my home studio. Working on small batches allows me to focus on quality craftsmanship.
Many of my customers tell me that their Dock 5 bag becomes their go-to bag and they appreciate that it lasts for years. The print designs create an emotional connection when a person chooses a bag, and then the art becomes a conversation piece as it gets carried into the world.
Craftsmanship is sustainability
