Fabric Collage Art - Wild Blueberry

This collage was inspired by a childhood blueberry-picking trip with my mom and brothers. We had driven hours north to a secret spot she knew, ready with pails in hand. We’d only just started picking when a mother bear and her cubs showed up. My mom calmly but firmly herded us back to the car. We didn’t end up with many berries that day, but the thrill of that moment stayed with me.

I stitched this piece with that memory in mind—layers of hand-dyed fabric on a background of vintage denim, framed in weathered cedar that echoes the rugged beauty of the north woods. Every summer, I honor this story by baking blueberry cobbler in the same cast iron skillet my mom once used.
