This is the largest fabric collage I’ve created to date, designed to reflect the grandeur and elegance of the Sandhill Crane. By working at this scale, I aimed to capture the bird’s commanding presence—while the close-up composition offers an intimate view that draws the viewer in.
Cranes have long held symbolic meaning in art and culture around the world. In Japanese tradition, the crane represents longevity and peace, often featured in prints and origami as a symbol of hope. In ancient Greek mythology, cranes were seen as omens of good fortune and messengers of the gods.
This piece is part of a new wetland wildlife series and will be featured in my upcoming solo exhibition at the Great Lakes Aquarium in November 2025.
