This piece captures an intimate moment: a Ruby-throated Hummingbird feeding her chicks in a nest no bigger than a tea cup. I used hand-dyed fabrics to shape the delicate forms of the birds and their nest, and added fine mohair thread for the downy lining—a soft, almost invisible detail that helps bring this tiny world to life.
Part of my Nesting Season series, created as an Upstream Fellow in 2024, this work honors the quiet strength and care found in everyday acts of motherhood. The moment is fleeting, but I hope this collage gives it a sense of permanence—something we can pause with and appreciate.
